* Henry & June: From ‘A Journal of Love’ – The Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin (1931 – 1932). Edited by Rupert Pole, (1986). Two film adaptations were made based upon the book: Henry & June (1990) directed by Philip Kaufman, with Fred Ward as Henry, Uma Thurman as June, and Maria de Medeiros as Anaïs Nin. The movie was the first film to be released in the United States with an NC-17 rating. Another adaptation released the previous year was The Room of Words (La stanza delle parole), a low-budget Italian production directed by Franco Molé.
